PROFILE | Takashi Sawai has worked as a vice-president of MIYOSHI & MIYOSHI since 2011. Mr.Sawai studied nuclear engineering at Hokkaido University and Graduate School. He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (Latterly NTT:Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) in 1976, and was engaged in the development of a semiconductor device in the LSI Research Lab. for about five years. He passed the examination of patent attorneys in 1979, and moved to the Patent Department of NTT the following year. He served as in-house attorney of NTT from 1985 and became the general manager of the Intellectual Property Center in NTT's group in 2009. He transferred to NTT Advanced Technology Corporation (a subsidiary of NTT) as a senior vice president and has conducted business relating to intellectual property for more than 10 years. Mr.Sawai has worked for various committees of Government officials (for example, Cabinet Office, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan Patent Office) all of which discuss policy and institutional reforms related to intellectual property Mr.Sawai is very active among intellectual property organizations and is a leader in the intellectual property field of Japan. He served as the president of the Japan Intellectual Property Association in 2001 which is the largest user’s organization in the world. Also, he has served as the acting chairman of the Sub-Committee of Policy Planning Committee on Intellectual Property in Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) since 2003. In addition, Mr.Sawai is very active in the field of intellectual property in higher education and served as visiting professor in The University of Tokyo (2002 - 2005). He was involved in the launch of Japan's first professional intellectual property Graduate School, installed in The Tokyo University of Science in 2005, and has served as a professor there since then. Since joining MIYOSHI & MIYOSHI Mr.Sawai has served as the chief director of the Institute for Intellectual Property Strategy which studies intellectual property management and innovation strategy with general managers of top Japanese companies. He consults on intellectual property management and innovation strategy, and advices about intellectual property policy. His main field is business-designs based on intellectual property and his technical field is semiconductor engineering and telecommunication. Mr.Sawai is a member of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association . In his leisure time, he enjoys a variety of sports including skiing and golf. |
